Properties of balsamic vinegar you might not know

Borges - properties of balsamic vinegar

Here’s a teaser: it’s highly versatile, it’s a great ally in the quest to prevent diabetes and high blood pressure, it helps combat cholesterol and it can help you lose weight. Can you guess what foodstuff we’re talking about? Vinegar.

Nonetheless, some time ago you switched over to balsamic vinegar, because it’s sweeter, denser… and you prefer it. And yet you still might not be aware of all its properties.

Did you know that the ancients used balsamic vinegar to cure bone ailments and combat rheumatism by rubbing it directly onto the affected area? And in the modern world:

It’s rich in nutrients. It preserves many nutrients from grapes and is rich in minerals: calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and manganese. It packs quite a punch!

It’s a health and youth balm. Balsamic vinegar contains polyphenols, which are highly effective against cancer, and it may be good for keeping blood sugar levels steady. It’s also good for the heart and the circulatory system, is low in sodium and saturated fats and doesn’t contain any cholesterol. It’s high in antioxidants, especially in substances good at combating the action of free radicals.

It’s digestive and diuretic. The potassium in balsamic vinegar has a diuretic action on the body. And thanks to its enzymes, it’s seen as a highly digestive ingredient.

It’s great for slimming. The sum of these three properties—diuretic, digestive and antioxidant—suggests that it can help the body burn fat.

It’s a natural disinfectant and beauty balm. It fights dark mould, bacteria and other germs. It helps restore natural pH and acidity levels in the body. Historically it has been used to combat acne, in hip baths and as a hair care product.
